IKES began his music career at the tender age of 14 as a Garage MC. He honed his musical skills by studying the crafts of some of the greats; such as Tupac, Biggie, Michael Jackson and more. Hailing from the edge of Hackney, Ikes was later signed to Indie label Reignassance, which was also home to such names as Chipmunk, Random Impulse and Wizzy Wow at the time.
Featured on Flavour Magazine’s 2010 ‘Hot List’, 2010 saw IKES making huge strides. His mixtape ‘Peer 2 Peer’ received over 10,000 downloads worldwide in two weeks, with the accompanying music videos collectively reaping in a lot of attention online, featured on such platforms as Grime Daily, Jump Off UK, All Hip Hop and OnSMASH. IKES received rave reviews for his 'Warm Up Session' on SB.TV, with SB.TV creator Jamal Edwards later picking it to be featured in the company’s Google Chrome advert, broadcasted on television in 2012.
Across the Atlantic, IKES has appeared on two of DJ Infamous’ ‘In the Streets’ mixtapes which also featured such established artists as Drake, Fabolous and The Dream.
This lead to IKES collaborating directly with DJ Infamous on ‘The Intermission’ mixtape, released in December 2010.
January 2012 saw the release of the EP ‘The Intermission: Last Call’ via iTunes. The project gained IKES a lot of attention, with BBC 1Xtra supporting its lead single ‘GirlTalk’, featuring Jermaine Riley and Scorcher, on their BBC Introducing podcast. Prestigious industry magazine Music Week also featured ‘GirlTalk’ in their March edition of ‘Music Week Presents.’
The PORT MAYFAIR founder, whose brand represents quality over quantity, with an intention of always pushing the envelope creatively, released the third in the Intermission mixtape series 'Sliding Doors' in November 2012, heavily cosigned by DJ Semtex who exclusively hosted the project to download on his website.
Last year saw Ikes release his remix of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’, (‘B.D.K.M.V’), which was featured across blogs including Vice's We Are S.M.E, and SB.TV. This young talent is showing no signs of slowing down, and with his entrepreneurial skills, he’s set for success in the very near future. With an active involvement in projects such as 'Midem' in Cannes of France, and 'The New Music Seminar' in New York, Ikes is trying to make a difference in the music world.
All about his live shows, Ikes performs his sets with a four-piece band. Ikes was booked for both CMJ and A3C late 2013, two of the biggest hip-‐hop festivals in New York and Atlanta. The first quarter of 2014 will see the rapper release his upcoming EP, ‘Outside|In’.
