Alisha “Sasha Melody” Hamid, first in her family to be born in the U.S. Her parents, natives from Guyana, South America influenced Sasha with music at an early age. Her father who liked to DJ in his spare time would play soca music from artists such as Byron Lee, Arrow and Sparrow and that’s how she discovered her love for soca music.
Sasha comes from a musical family. At the age of three Sasha began singing on the church stage where her grandmother would play the organ and sing back-up vocals for her, and her uncles would play the guitar to form a family band.
In school, Sasha sang in the Monarch High School Concert Choir and began acting and vocal training at the Academy of Performing Arts School in Denver, Colorado at The Academy of Art.
In October of 2000, Sasha competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts where she was awarded three gold medals. One each in singing, acting and spokes modeling. These achievements landed her a role on the longest run, first nationally syndicated show in television history – Soul Train. For three years Sasha remained on the show which was filmed at paramount studios in Los Angeles, CA.
At the age of 17, Sasha graduated High School as a junior and was accepted in to “Five Towns College” in New York. While in school Sasha did internships with Universal Music Group, Atlantic Records and VP Records. Before her 21st Birthday, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in the Concentration of the Music Business.
In 2006 Sasha recorded “Whinin School,” “Fyah” and “Music, “ which were all produced by Jason Lee (Former band member of Atlantik) who was also the person who gave her the name “Sasha Melody.”
By 2008 Sasha had performed in various cities in California, Louisiana, Florida and New York and appeared as a dancer in the music video for T.C. featuring Capelton called Bounce.
In 2013 Sasha recorded “Land of Soca” in Trinidad; which was released for the 2014 carnival season. In 2016 Sasha was announced the Female Soca Chutney Artiste of the year in the International Soca Awards and released “Bring the Vibes” produced by Stadic and written by Rayzor for the 2017 Carnival season, and in 2018 she released her song called “Love off” produced by advokit. Which made it in the final rounds of the 2018 Carib Soca Monarch in Guyana, becoming the biggest song in Guyana for the 2018 Mashrami season.
