Michael Kwatia a.k.a MOAK is of Ghanaian descent, born and raised in London.

He first got into spoken word through the accumulation and culmination of various experiences and influences, including music, battle rap and heartbreak! Michael started writing and performing properly at the beginning of 2013 and has never looked back since.

His main inspiration in terms of writing is from his personal experiences, as he states “it is hard for me to write about something I don’t have a connection/attachment to.” Michael has also been inspired by the likes of George The Poet and Kojey Radical particularly the former as he was the first spoken word artist Michael came across which really inspired him to write.

Michael: “I want my spoken word to connect with as many people as possible, I want it to be influential in a positive way and inspire, motivate and hopefully educate the younger generation particularly.”

You can catch Michael performing at various venues around london, including Richmix in Shoerditch.

Michael: “Having the ability to write impactful words can take you many places, so I believe spoken word can take me into the music industry, book writing, activism, media and beyond so that’s where I am hoping it can take me as writing is only a fraction of what I want to offer back to the world.”
